Other countries that had notable performances include the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, France, Japan, China, and South Korea. The Netherlands, despite being a country of only 17 million people, managed to take home 24 medals, 8 gold, 8 silver, and 8 bronze. Sweden took home 26 medals, 6 gold, 6 silver, and 14 bronze, while Austria earned 30 medals, 8 gold, 15 silver, and 7 bronze.
France earned 20 medals, 5 gold, 10 silver, and 5 bronze, and was followed by Japan with 12 medals, 5 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze. China took home 9 medals, 2 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze. South Korea earned 17 medals, 5 gold, 8 silver, and 4 bronze.
Overall, the 2017 Winter Olympics was a great success. Nations from around the world showcased their athletes’ talents, and many were surprised by the performances of some of the smaller countries. Norway’s dominance was unsurprising, but the Netherlands’ and Sweden’s performances were unexpected. As the 2018 Winter Olympics approaches, it will be interesting to see how these countries fare against each other.
