The Winter Olympics 2017 in PyeongChang, South Korea, are officially over, with the host nation winning a total of 17 medals, including five golds. While Norway topped the medal table with a staggering 39 medals, there was plenty of excitement to be had throughout the Games—from the record-breaking performances of the athletes to the creative and innovative events that took place. But what were the most impressive feats of the Winter Olympics 2017? Let's take a look at the medal table and find out who won the most medals and why.

From the edge-of-your-seat excitement of figure skating to the thrilling speed of bobsleigh, the Winter Olympics 2017 saw some of the best athletes in the world compete for medals and glory. With a total of 102 events across the nine disciplines, the competition was fierce and the medal table reflected it. Norway led the way with 39 medals, while Germany, Canada, and the United States all made it into double digits. Host nation South Korea also made a strong showing, finishing ninth in the medal table.

As is true for any Olympic Games, the Winter Olympics 2017 had plenty of remarkable stories to tell. From seasoned veterans to rookie athletes, many competitors came away with medals and personal bests. Norway’s Marit Bjørgen, who celebrated her 37th birthday during the Games, was the most decorated athlete with six medals, including three golds. She became the first woman to win 11 medals across multiple Winter Olympics, and only the second athlete to achieve the feat after Norway’s Ole Einar Bjoerndalen.

Germany’s Laura Dahlmeier was another stand-out performer, becoming the first biathlete to win five gold medals at a single Winter Olympics. Meanwhile, the Netherlands dominated speed skating, winning 14 medals overall. The country swept the podium in four races, setting four new Olympic records in the process.

The United States’ snowboarding team also put on a show, winning nine medals, including four golds. Red Gerard, the 17-year-old, became the youngest snowboarder to win gold in the men’s slopestyle event. He was followed closely by Jamie Anderson, who won gold in the women’s slopestyle and big air events.

South Korea’s own gold medal moments were also inspiring. Its women’s hockey team won its first ever gold medal, defeating Japan in a dramatic shootout. And the nation’s figure skaters, Kim Yuna and Cha Jun-hwan, both took home bronze medals.

Overall, the Winter Olympics 2017 was an unforgettable event that showcased the world’s best athletes. Whether they won gold, silver, or bronze, all the competitors should be proud of their achievements and inspired to continue striving for excellence.
